The Invitation

You’ve been invited to dinner and there it is hovering in the corner like a magic carpet.  Can you hear it calling you to celebrate?  It’s the beloved photo booth.  What!  Are you in High School?  I thought this was an adult party.  Calm down, you are in the right place.  You see, as you mature in life sometimes the fun wears off. You can find yourself forgetting how to enjoy the moment. 

The Stage is Set

The tables are beautifully set, plates, silverware and even a disco-like centerpiece standing tall in the middle.  The adults are carrying on with adult conversations.  Occasionally you get a laugh or a smile.  All the while in the corner is the photo booth shining its light and daring anyone to come and try it out.  It reminds me of a high school dance with boys on one side staring across the gym at the girls.  The music is playing but nobody is dancing.  The stage is set, so why aren’t we dancing? 

The First Brave Couple

Then it begins, the first brave couple discreetly walks over to the delightfully decorated photo booth.  The scenery is laced with vibrant shades of pink roses, a fluffy light pink rug and an I Choose You sign.  They chuckle a little and then step into their moment.  Something magical begins to happen.  A fifteen-year-old marriage suddenly transports to the first date. You giggle, lock eyes and have each other’s undivided attention. You are reminded of the “Why” you are together. It’s no longer a mom or dad, wife or husband, just a girl who fell in love with a boy. Your hands still fit perfectly together, your eyes twinkle, and it never gets old just staring into his eyes. Oh snap! The moment is captured! 

And just like a domino falling so goes one couple after the other stepping into their moment. 

The Photo Booth is a Blank Canvas, and You Hold the Paint Brush.

First, be spontaneous. Next, grab a chair and a bouquet of shiny red heart balloons.  Then, sit on your spouse’s lap and smile like you just started dating.  Indeed, be reminded that even after six kids you are still madly in love.    

Come in a Little Closer

The camera lens is a small space so come in a little closer, grab his hand and put your arm around her.   

Gather your girlfriends around, it’s girl’s night out, transport into the 80’s with hot pink glasses and neon green fishnet gloves.    

Yes, the spotlight is on you, so live a little.  Next, grab a prop, maybe a mustache or a pair of sparkly heart glasses.  Then, strike a pose and don’t take yourself too seriously.  Finally, let the giggles out and feel free to have fun. Equally important, remember to smile.
